IT’S OK (TO NOT BE OK)

The painting series titled, “It’s OK (TO NOT BE OK)” is inspired by quintessential psychological questions. I repeat the icon of a circle to emphasize the never-ending loop of the pursuit of answers while echoing the shape of a portal or a window. I repeat text fragments like, “OK” to emphasize a pattern or mantra of indelible belief. The paintings utilize color palettes derived from 60’s era pop culture and graphic design. The text appearing in the work is applied through image transfer techniques to create a combination of texture and depth, while also allowing me to lose some control around how the surface ultimately manifests. Other layers are applied directly with paint to highlight color and texture combinations in the interest of eliciting strong emotion and inviting the viewer in. I remix digital and analogue sources and applications in these paintings to include multiple ways that I encounter information today.
